Description
The Aran Island Kisheen is an Irish heritage basket woven by hand, from specially selected willow. This handmade basket has a narrow opening and wide base, giving it a tapered appearance. Robustly built, the Kisheen was the original Irish lunch basket – packed with food it could be thrown down a field or over a wall to the workmen, the narrow opening kept food inside and the thick Willow sides kept it protected. Beautiful as a sculptural vessel, as a decorative storage option or a picnic basket. Hand crafted and made to order basket, there will be slight differences in the pattern and colours of each basket.
Size, Pattern and Colour: The Kisheen basket measures approx 10″ at its widest × 15″ high – 25.4cm (w) x 38cm (h). Caring for your Willow Basket: The willow used for your basket is hand grown in Ireland and is 100% carbon neutral. As with all wood, willow is a natural material that is impacted by the environment it’s in, over time light will effect it’s colour and extreme changes in temperature and humidity will cause it to expand and contract. Use a duster, dry cloth or vacuum cleaner to remove dust, use warm soapy water to clean any stains and if mold or mildew forms clean the area with a mild lemon juice and water solution then rinse thoroughly to prevent dis-colouration and dab dry. If your environment is very dry and warm, leaving your basket out in a summer shower once a year will restore moisture content and prevent your basket from drying out and becoming brittle.
